Some journeys booked on our platform include travel by ferry, such as SailRail services operated in partnership with Irish Ferries or Stena Line.
Because ferry sailings can sometimes be affected by weather conditions or operational changes, we recommend checking the latest sailing information directly with the ferry operator before you set out.

Passport and ETA requirements
From 28 September 2026, all ferry companies will require passengers travelling on a SailRail ticket to or from the Republic of Ireland to carry a valid passport or Irish passport card.
Other forms of photo ID, including driving licences and national identity cards, will no longer be accepted.
If you’re not a British or Irish citizen, you may also need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to Britain. We recommend checking the latest UK entry requirements before travelling.
This requirement applies to all ferry companies and all SailRail routes travelling to or from the Republic of Ireland.

Trainline sells tickets that may include ferry travel but does not operate these ferry services.
