Advance Single tickets
If you booked an Advance ticket before 1st November, for travel between 1st November and 2nd December and can no longer travel, you are eligible for a fee-free change of journey.
Even if the date of travel for your original journey has passed, you will still be able to rebook a new date of travel, without being charged a fee. We appreciate you may not know your new travel date yet, so you have up to six months to rebook your journey without a fee.
The difference between the price of your original Advance ticket paid and the cost of the next suitable fare for your journey is payable. If you change to a train on which a cheaper fare is available, the difference will not be refunded.
You can change your journey as many times as needed however we recommend leaving your booking on hold until you know what time and date will suit. You’ll only be able to change your journey once without incurring a fee – you have six months to rebook.
This applies to all customers in England and areas of Wales and Scotland affected by government travel restrictions.

If the above advice does not apply to you - normal rules for changing tickets apply
Advance Single tickets cannot be refunded but they can be changed...
- Changes are only allowed for a different time/date of travel, so you need to stick to the same departure and arrival stations.
- You must change your ticket at least 15 mins before your original train is due to depart.
- We refund you whichever ticket is the lowest priced between your original or new ticket. From this we deduct a change fee based on the value of the ticket.
The breakdown of change fees for a single ticket are as follows
Ticket value / Change fee per ticket
Up to £1.99 / No fee
£2.00 to £4.99 / £1.00 fee
£5.00 to £9.99 / £3.00 fee
£10.00 to £14.99 / £7.50 fee
